Er ist ein mittelgro\u00dfer Hund, der grob und nur auf den ersten Blick an einen <a href=\"\/magazin\/hunde\/mittelspitz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mittelspitz<\/a> erinnert. Er hat ein dichtes, wetterunempfindliches, robustes Fell. Das Deckhaar ist mittellang oder lang, mit dichter, weicher Unterwolle. Es gibt <strong>kurzhaarige und langhaarige Islandhunde<\/strong>. Verschiedene Farben von loh bis creme, schokobraun, grau oder schwarz sind zugelassen. Stets sollten die Hunde wei\u00dfe Abzeichen haben. Sein allgemeines Erscheinungsbild beschreibt der Standard so:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Der Islandhund ist ein nordischer H\u00fcte-Spitz; er ist etwas weniger als mittelgro\u00df und hat Stehohren und eine geringelte Rute. Von der Seite gesehen hat er rechteckiges Format, d.h. die L\u00e4nge seines K\u00f6rpers vom Buggelenk bis zum Sitzbeinh\u00f6cker \u00fcbertrifft seine Widerristh\u00f6he. Au\u00dferhalb Islands wird er aber meist nur noch als Begleithund gez\u00fcchtet. Das ist kein Nachteil. Er findet sich vielmehr bestens in diese seine heutige Rolle als <a href=\"\/magazin\/hunde\/familienhund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Familienhund<\/a> und Begleiter ein. Doch ist er immer noch sehr agil und <strong>braucht seine Auslastung<\/strong>. Im Wachen und Besch\u00fctzen f\u00fchlt er sich wohl und mag auch gerne bellen. Zugleich ist ein sehr freundlicher dem Menschen zugewandter Familienhund. Er gilt als <strong>ausgesprochen kinderlieb.<\/strong> Der offizielle Standard beschreibt sein Wesen treffend wie folgt:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Der Islandhund ist ein robuster, wendiger, lautfreudiger H\u00fctehund und deshalb \u00e4u\u00dferst n\u00fctzlich beim H\u00fcten und Treiben des Viehs auf den Weiden und in den Bergen sowie beim Aufsp\u00fcren verlorengegangener Schafe. Er ist von Natur aus wachsam und begr\u00fc\u00dft jeden Besucher voller Begeisterung, ohne aggressiv zu sein. Sein Jagdinstinkt ist nur schwach ausgebildet. Der Islandhund ist fr\u00f6hlich, freundlich, neugierig, verspielt und nicht \u00e4ngstlich.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Der Islandhund ist durchaus f\u00fcr den ambitionierten Anf\u00e4nger geeignet.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"herkunft-geschichte\">Herkunft &amp; Geschichte<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"wo-kommt-der-islandhund-urspruenglich-her\">Wo kommt der Islandhund urspr\u00fcnglich her?<\/h3>\n<p>Er war \u00fcber viele Jahrhunderte hinweg das \"Schweizer Messer\" der einsam gelegenen H\u00f6fe und Werkst\u00e4tten auf der gro\u00dfen der <strong>Insel im Nordatlantik.<\/strong> In den extrem rauen Klima mussten sie Schafherden h\u00fcten, Ungeziefer kleinhalten, bei der Jagd helfen, sowie auf Haus und Hof und besonders die Kinder aufpassen. Einerseits gelten sie als Sch\u00e4ferhunde anderseits als Nordische Spitze. Jedenfalls sind es \u00e4u\u00dferst clevere, agile, flexible und <strong>robuste Helfer des Menschen<\/strong>. Ihr Bestand war noch vor kurzem akut gef\u00e4hrdet. Durch eingeschleppte Krankheiten und die Vermischung mit auf die Insel legal und illegal importierten Rassehunden schienen sie bereits ausgestorben. Dann erkannten die Isl\u00e4nder die Gefahr um ihren einzigen einheimischen Hund und steuerten gezielt dagegen. Heute scheint diese einmalige Hunderasse in ihrem Bestand \u00fcber den Berg zu sein. Der Islandhund erfreut sich zudem au\u00dferhalb Islands einer stetig wachsenden Beliebtheit. Rein genetisch gesehen hat er seine nordische Identit\u00e4t behalten k\u00f6nnen. Das best\u00e4tigt jedenfalls eine umfassende Gen-Analyse aus dem Jahr 2017 \u00fcber mehr als 100 Hunderassen mit mehr als 13.000 Hunden durch ein Team von Genetikern um Heidi Parker. Der Islandhund ist au\u00dferhalb seiner urspr\u00fcnglichen Heimat als freundlicher, spannender und faszinierender Begleit- und Familienhund sehr beliebt geworden. Er hat noch ein gutes St\u00fcck seiner <strong>urigen Leistungsf\u00e4higkeit<\/strong> erhalten, was sich in Bewegungsdrang, Arbeitsfreunde und hoher Wachsamkeit ausdr\u00fcckt. 1972 erfolgte die offizielle Anerkennung durch die F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Cynologique Internationale. In Deutschland wird der Islenskur Fj\u00e1rhundur z\u00fcchterisch vom Deutschen Club f\u00fcr Nordische Hunde im VDH betreut. Das solltest du rechtzeitig in die Wege leiten, denn die Welpen sind rar.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"islandhund-erziehung-und-haltung\">Islandhund Erziehung und Haltung<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"passt-ein-islandhund-zu-mir\">Passt ein Islandhund zu mir?<\/h3>\n<p>Der Islandhund ist ein freundlicher, temperamentvoller Hund. Er will die<strong> Einbindung in die Familie<\/strong> und kann sich in diese auch anstandslos einordnen. Ideal ist ein Haus mit Garten auf dem Land. Das ist aber kein Muss. Er kann auch in einer Wohnung in der Stadt gehalten werden, vorausgesetzt man besch\u00e4ftigt sich t\u00e4glich mit ihm. Der Islandhund ist ein liebevolles Mitglied der Familie und toller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zooroyal.de\/magazin\/hunde\/hund-kind-so-klappts-mit-der-harmonie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Partner f\u00fcr Kinder.<\/a> Er begr\u00fc\u00dft Besuch freundlich und st\u00fcrmisch. Seine Herzlichkeit wirkt ansteckend. Hat er zuviel Langeweile kann er jedoch auch mal seine Energie am Mobiliar auspowern oder er wird zum Kl\u00e4ffer. Da er heute nur noch wenig Jagdtrieb hat, gestalten sich die Ausfl\u00fcge mit ihm in die Natur recht entspannt. Mit einem Islandhund kann man<strong> problemlos auf Reisen gehen<\/strong>. Im Auto empfiehlt sich - alleine schon wegen der Haare - eine Transportbox aus Aluminium. Ein Islandhund braucht etwas Fellpflege. Das war es schon. Viel wichtiger ist es, dass Mensch wie Hund gemeinsames Interesse an viel Bewegung und Erkundungen in der Natur haben. Der Islandhund ist kein Couch-Potatoe. Der Islandhund l\u00e4sst sich sehr gut erziehen. Er ist offen und ehrlich und arbeitet gerne mit Herrchen und Frauchen zusammen. Die Kunst liegt darin, das richtige Ma\u00df an <strong>Konsequenz und F\u00fchrung<\/strong> f\u00fcr diesen sehr temperamentvollen und zugleich feinf\u00fchligen, intelligenten Hund zu finden. Die entscheidende Grundlage ist immer eine enge emotionale und vertrauensvolle gegenseitige Bindung. F\u00fcr sein gutes Benehmen - was er locker kann - ist eine gewisse Auslastung Grundvoraussetzung. Ein unterforderter und so frustrierter Islandhund wird sich sicher auch nicht als folgsamer Begleiter bedanken. Aber das liegt alleine in der Macht seines Herrchens oder Frauchens. Vom Welpen an musst du seinen Meldeeifer, der mit Bellfreudigkeit verbunden ist, im Auge haben. Hier solltest du ihm strenge Z\u00fcgel anlegen, wohnst du nicht gerade auf einem einsamen, alleine gelegenen Grundst\u00fcck.
